Holiday Catchup

Been busy this holiday season, so I fell behind. Christmas craft fairs, Thanksgiving travel, pet portrait commissions have been keeping me busy. Sadly I also had a family member pass away from a heart attack, plus my husband fell and broke his leg. Never a dull moment (I wonder what those feel like) I had closed my online Etsy shop for Christmas, but I'm now I'm back open for business.
So hopefully my little blog will be updated on a more regular basis.
Merry Christmas Everybody!

A pair of boxers

Fun times at "A Day in The Plains"

Yesterday at "A Day in The Plains" was a blast. Met some nice people, the weather was absolutely spectacular and got to spend the day with my hubby/roadie, without whom, I could never do the shows - he is a great help. I was very encouraged by the fact that The Plains paintings I did were a hit, and I sold my first original painting at one of these events. Paul & I were so beat, we slept until after 8:30 this morning! Thank you everyone for all the nice comments and to those who made a purchase.

UGH! STINK BUG!

While, from what I've heard, my invasion of Stink Bugs isn't as bad as some, we have had our fair share sneaking into our house. Usually if we get 1 or 2 all year it's a lot, I usually see them on my tomatoes in the middle of the summer.
This past weekend, I've had to dispose of at least 2 dozen or so I've found in the darnedest  places (in the window blinds, behind the flour next to the stove, in the cabinet, in a blister pack of pills, in the refrigerator) Plus open the garage door, and they come swarming out of the garage.
I sketched this little guy today on a sticky note with pencil and sharpie. Scanned him in and applied several layers of filters and color modifications in photoshop to create this illustration.

Lost Treasuries

Out of curiosity, I searched the etsy treasuries for my name, and I found a couple that I was in and didn't know about! How 'bout that?
I'm honored the person creating the treasury liked my items enough to include me. If you are also curious, here are links to said treasuries - I have been included amongst some lovely items to be sure

The Plains Post Office

Just finished this little painting, for "A Day In The Plains" festival October 2. This is The Plains post office. Soft pastel, 5x7. The original will be for sale as well as giclee prints. I'm hoping to get at least 2 more paintings done for the event.

disaster painting - fixed?

Here is the painting again. I used pastel pencils over the original painting. There are some spots that wouldn't take the pastel, because in those spots the color pencil was waxy instead of soluble, so the pastel skips over it (the pink color is that way), but over all, I think it looks better. I was doing this one to include in my Sketchbook I am working on for the sketchbook project, but in the rules it says not to use mediums that smudge, so that kind of eliminates pastels. I don't know if I'll try spraying it to the point of no smudge (which would darken the painting) or if I   will  print the scan and include it that way. We'll see.

Sketchbook Project: disaster painting

This is my disaster painting. I read in a magazine a painter/illustrator that used both colored pencil and water color to create interesting textures. but it didn't really work out for me. Some of the colored pencils I have are water soluble instead of waxy and they smeared and changed color instead of keeping their texture. I think I'm going to try to use this as a underpainting and apply pastels over it & see if I can salvage it.

On Monday, as the great weather continued, I drove over to The Plains to take some photos of the old town. Here are a few. Perhaps there will be a few of these transformed into paintings available at "A Day in The Plains" on October 4.

working on a new pet portrait (5 dogs) plus sales flyer

I'm currently working on 2 jobs this week. A sales flyer for a local business and a pet  portrait of 5 dog heads that will be a birthday present.
The finished size will be 11x14 - it's the first time I've done so many at one time. I'm using Canson Mi-Teintes pastel paper in one the speckle-tone-colors. since each of the heads will end up being kind of small, I'm using just pastel pencils, instead of pastel sticks as I normally would. Here is what I've accomplished so far. Comments are always welcome.  :)
