Catchup - 30 Little Paintings no 5, 6, 7

Number 5, 6, 7 of Thirty Little Paintings by Justine

Fell off the painting wagon. Trying to catch up and get back on :)

As a creative exercise, thru the month of January I will be posting 1 small painting or drawing, ATC / trading card size (2.5 x 3.5 inches), each day. I'm doing this across all my social media accounts (same painting).

Just for fun I'll be choosing 1 person each day (starting Jan 2) to receive the previous day's painting from the people who like, comment or share my posts about my artwork from the previous day.

So share, like, or comment about my artwork and you'll be included in the group of names I choose from tomorrow to receive this little guy. This is totally unscientific, I'll just write the names on little pieces of paper, throw them into a tupperware and pick one. If your name is picked, of course I will need your address to mail it to you. I will message you.

Brother Wolf - 30 Little Paintings no4

Number 4 of Thirty Little Paintings by Justine

I have several friends for whom the wolf is their spirit animal. This guy is to honor them.

Dandelion Experiment - 30 Little Paintings no3

Number 3 of Thirty Little Paintings by Justine

Here is today's little painting, an experiment of the watercolor technique called wet-on-wet. The paper is soaked in water and then paint is applied tot he wet paper so the colors bleed into each other. I know some people hate dandelions in their lawn, but I have always liked them. They are cheerful, resilient, with a promise of a wish.

So despite the lovely head cold that came upon me for the new year, here is my first little painting. Happy New Year everyone!

Are you there?

I know I've been absent from my blog for a while - been distracted by unforeseen events these past months and I'm trying to get back on track. I've been mostly posting to Facebook - sometimes that's all I can keep up with. www.facebook.com/RemingtonCreations

Summer's already half over, but plenty of warm days to enjoy.

Hot, Sticky, Crabby

Good Morning! It's gonna be a hot sticky one here, but I'm trying not to be crabby about it (coffee helps). Unfortunately for this guy, he can't help being anything but crabby

220 Steps

I love the Outer Banks and I especially love Corolla, NC. It was a special favorite place for my husband and I. This is Currituck Light. 220 steps to the top where awaits a gorgeous view of Corolla, the ocean and The Whalehead Club. We have spent vacations in Corolla probably 20 times over the years and were even married in Corolla. Wonderful, wonderful memories. Every visit to the Outer Banks, I've visited this lighthouse and climbed the 220 steps to the beautiful view not seen anywhere else.

Coloring Easter Eggs - No Boiling required

Easter Morning I colored some Easter Eggs to turn into cards - experimenting with the dragonfly stamp I carved, watercolor and ink.

loose paintings of Easter Egg backgrounds
I then stamped the eggs with a dragonfly and finished decorating them with pen. The blue one on the right has metallic gold and silver ink and then speckled with white paint spatter that doesn't show up well in the scan.
I enjoy being able to make things for my friends and family, giving them a little piece of me.
Happy Easter!

Butterfly Experiment

Trying some mixed media today - watercolor, ink & colored pencil. Not sure how I feel about it yet. May need more practice to be able to bring the different mediums together the way I like it. Any thoughts?

Dragonflies hold your place until you come back

I had created some bubble paint background for bookmarks a while ago. I used one to make a bookmark for my mother for her birthday. I thought dragonflies would be appropriate since the bubble background kinda looks like water. I didn't want the background to show through the watercolor, so I sketched them with ink and painted them on watercolor paper, then cut them out and attached them to the background. I found the watercolor paper to be almost too thick to cut out such small intricate shapes. I may have to use thinner paper next time. I attached the bookmark to card stock and inserted it into a plastic sleeve to protect it.

Young Buck

My friends and I go camping in Shenandoah National Park (cabin camping) and every once in a while we are visited by various wildlife like this young buck. I was thinking about what a nice time my husband & I had up there this past trip and I decided to paint our friend young buck.
Watercolor & ink, 6x4 inches.

You Are a Classic!

Latest item out of my studio

5x7 folded card on watercolor paper in watercolor & ink
I had an idea for a card, maybe for a birthday or father's day. I painted this card today on watercolor paper, folds to 5x7. Watercolor and black ink. Featuring a '58 Corvette I snapped a photo of at a local car show. I'm thinking of recreating it as a linoprint that I would hand color for my Etsy shop.

Sleepless in... plus some ATC

Sleepless in....   fill in the blank - we've all had those nights that sleep just never comes, like he lost our address or something. Well last night was one of those nights for me, now I'm operating on 2 hours sleep for the past 39 hours. After lying awake in bed for several hours, I got up and made these little artist's trading cards (ATC) I guess it helped because I was asleep 45 min after these were done, and my alarm went off less than 2 hours later

Inspiration Heartbreak - a poem

bookmark-crows / Watercolor
Inspiration Heartbreak
Inspiration you are a fickle lover.
There was a time you made me feel special,
            lovely, talented.
Now when I need you and look so desperately for you,
you are no where to be found.
Are you peering at me from the dark,
         watching me suffer?
Was it real, or was I always fooling myself?
Have you moved on to someone else? Some other bright-eyed hopeful?
Leaving me with a piece missing, trying desperately to grasp onto something wonderful, but leaving me with mediocrity.

Ok, that concludes the melodrama portion of our show, now onto our regularly scheduled program.

I'm missing the little birds

Painted this little ATC tonight in watercolor 3.5 in x 2.5 in. Even though I've been working mainly in pastel in the past few years, I'm getting a yearning for some watercolor - gotta practice though, its a tricky medium to control. It's almost like trying to train a cat to do tricks. I'm going to try to do a few bird pictures, I kinda miss my birdfeeders, which we had to take down do to the appearance of bears in the area. Hopefully I'll have more to share in the next few days.
